An Enchanted Evening of Lights at L.A.’s Descanso Gardens

November 08, 2017

One of the most time honored Christmas traditions in the United States, riding from house to house to marvel at flamboyant yard displays—inflatable reindeer, dancing snowmen, Santa sleighs bigger than a Chevrolet Bel Air Sedan—is a hallmark of the suburban childhood experience. With Enchanted: Forest of Light, L.A.’s Descanso Gardens has forgone the requisite tackiness of the suburban Christmas display in favor of an elegant, contemporary, and playful aesthetic that will tickle your adult sensibilities at least as much as that fifteen foot Frosty delighted your childhood self. From November 19 through January 7, the botanic gardens will be illuminated with a variety of holiday-inspired installations. Twirling strobe lights, color-changing columns, twinkling tulips, and singing sycamores are just some of the sublime spectacles you’ll encounter at this one-of-a-kind holiday art experience. The lights come on most evenings between 5:30 and 9 P.M. Dress for cool weather (nightly temps will probably be in the 40s), and allow yourself about an hour to take in all this winter wonderland has to offer.

Address: 1418 Descanso Drive, La Cañada Flintridge, CA 91011
